When it comes to getting all fancy, I admit that a simple black dress is not my first choice. For the most part, my dressy occasions are weddings, so I like to wear some color. Basically, look a little festive. But there is no denying the power of a classic black dress. Especially when you are on the gala committee and there is soooo much work to do leading up to the event that you just need to make a decision that you know will work. I’m sure we can all relate. Sometimes events sneak up on you and there is zero time to debate if a dress will look too dressy or not enough, or if the color will look right. In these times, the LBD always saves the day.
But that doesn’t mean it needs to be boring! There are two ways you can elevate that basic black dress. The first is with style options – lace, one sleeve, interesting hemlines, a little ruffle. Add a little something to make it interesting. If your dress doesn’t have that extra oomphf, try some accessories to jazz it up. On the night of the gala, I wore fun earring cuffs and metallic heels. But both options are great places to add a pop of color. And while I’m always a supporter of a red lip {like the shade I wore during the holidays below}, I like the unexpected simplicity of a nude or soft pink lip and highlighted cheeks.
