Yesterday was Earth Day. It’s a good reminder that we can all make a positive impact with our choices. And green beauty is something that can help the planet and our personal health. As someone who is gravitating towards more clean beauty products and trying to go green in other ways, I love hearing about favorite products and stores that offer cleaner options. From the purist that will only buy green beauty to others who are just discovering it for the first time. Which is why this post from the Beauty Insiders is so interesting. You get the perspective of someone who has been living in this green space for years as well as someone who is more of a luxury beauty user.
I am an eco-facialist based in Chevy Chase, MD at The Emerald Door. I am also the founder of Skincando luxury organic skincare, the 1st organic skincare company based in DC and created in 2008. I have been in the green beauty industry for twenty years! Time flies!!
I am launching my complete skincare line this year and I have been using and testing my products for the past year. Here are my favorite products from the line:
1/ Pearl Mud is a multi-tasking product that is responsible for keeping my skin clear and bright. It is made from the pure mud of the Copper River in Alaska and is a powerful product with a fine exfoliating grit that I recommend using every night as a detoxing cleanser and once a week as a treatment mask.
2/ Liquid Silver protective lotion is a weightless lotion that balances and hydrates all skin types. A beautiful formula filled with rich ingredients including silk protein, seaweed and micro silver that leaves skin nourished with a matte glow. I love this lotion!!
3/ Blue Lavender gel cleanser is my morning cleanser. It is a simple cleanser made out of organic coconut, jojoba and olive oils that gently cleanses my skin and leaves it fresh without drying it out. I also just love the scent of lavender ???? Great for sensitive skin!
Only available at The Emerald Door green beauty spa or by calling 202.215.8991. Available later this year at Skincando.
I am admittedly not the biggest user of green beauty. I’m set into a routine with products that really work for my skin and if I’m being honest, just don’t want to mess with it. Having said that, I am always excited to discover new beauty products and am lucky to have an incredible store called Organachs Farm to Skin near me with the most gorgeous selection of organic and natural skincare and makeup lines. Along with Organachs, I love to visit Follain in Boston and Cap Beauty in NYC. Between these three stores, I have discovered some of my favorite green beauty products.
1/ Marie Veronique Barrier Restore Serum. I am ALL about maintaining a healthy skin barrier. Once this is compromised, everything else goes haywire. This serum is really special because it manages to truly hydrate, comfort and repair my skin without clogging my pores in the least bit. I can’t imagine anyone not loving it.
2 / Uma Absolute Anti Aging Mask. I was sold on this mask because I am a big believer in using anti-inflammatory ingredients in my skincare and this mask counts Tumeric as one of its ingredients. I keep it in the fridge, it feels incredible on my skin and when I take it off, my face feels super smooth, calm and hydrated. Love it.
3/ Kjaer Weis Eyeshadow in Wisdom: This entire line is a sight for sore eyes. The MOST beautiful packaging and all refillable, so you pay for it once and you’re done, which I love. I had the opportunity to sit through a master class with the creator of the line, Kirsten Kjaer Weis and to be honest I was taken with so many of their products, but one that I personally use almost every day is this eye shadow. I have extremely sensitive eyes and there are a lot of eye products that irritate me but these are amazing. Wisdom is a mix of gray, brown and purple and is THE perfect everyday wash of color which can also be built up to something more dramatic. Also, if you are wondering…Kirsten was so lovely and down to earth and that always matters to me when investing in a brand.
Finally, I have to give a shout out to RMS. Their cream bronzers, highlighters, blushes and lip shines are staples in my personal beauty bag and my kit. The pots are so easy to travel with and the products melt into the skin to perfection. They are the real deal when it comes to wearing makeup but looking like you are just naturally bronzed, flushed and lit from within! Who doesn’t want that?!
