Have you ever looked back on a decision you made in your life and realized what a positive impact saying yes at that moment made? Maybe you easily jumped into it. Or it could be that you spent way too much time thinking about it. The latter happened to me a few years ago when I decided to sign up as a Beautycounter consultant. I was definitely looking for guidance. Asking around, “Why Join Beautycounter?” Thankfully, I said yes.
Now, at the time I was learning the blogging world as a stay at home mom. I had worked at beauty companies like Revlon and bluemercury, so the idea of working with makeup and skincare wasn’t new. But I wasn’t as familiar with clean beauty or what it really meant to start a business for myself. So
I was contemplating going back into the work force and started searching for beauty jobs in DC. I knew this was a long shot since most company headquarters were in NYC, where I used to work. But Beautycounter came up in the search results and it was the first time I heard the name.
I thought maybe they had an office here. But then I kept reading and learned their name was associated with DC because they are huge advocates of safer consumer products. Even though I worked in marketing at makeup companies for over 11 years, it never occurred to me that the ingredients in the products I use may not be the safest.
As a mom, I was hyper vigilant on what my kids were eating and looking for non-toxic products. I never put that lens on my own products. I went for the right shade or a pretty package. Little did I know that I should have been reading the ingredient labels the same way I did on my kids’ cereal.
Then I knew. A beauty company that ensures their products are safe as possible? Sign me up!
If you’ve been thinking about making some money, educating yourself and others about clean products, and having a positive impact on the world, maybe you should try it too!
For every Beautycounter consultant, there is a why. Some join because a health issue forced them to evaluate the products they use. For me, I felt it was aligned with my background and my health journey going forward.
Some people ask me if you need to be a blogger to join and the answer is straight up no. Beautycounter consultants are stay at home moms, photographers, doctors, teachers, military wives, and more.
To be honest, I was a little hesitant to strictly focus on Beautycounter products on my blog. I didn’t want to limit my audience. However, they are honestly the products I use every single day so talking about them and reviewing them are much more authentic. And since Beautycounter’s mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone, talking about other clean brands I use is truly complimentary.
This was key for me. I knew that I wanted to do drop off with my kids, attend an occasional field trip and work from anywhere. There are no set hours unless you decide that for yourself.
I was fortunate to join Beautycounter under an amazing mentor and friend. I now have a few girls on my team and we all help each other out. But beyond your direct network, each consultant is provided with so many tools to make your business a success. Things like weekly emails, social post content, inspiring videos from the company’s CEO and makeup tips.
The amount of work you want to put into it is totally up to you. Some consultants take this very seriously and consider it as a full time job. You can host pop-ups throughout the month, sell products person to person, build a team, and create your own Facebook groups and social accounts. Or you can just sell to your friends and family. Whatever works for you!
I know we all have a friend who pushes sales on you and any random person they crossed paths with on social media. Do not think you need to do that to be successful. If that annoys you, then simple do not follow that path. Do what is right for you.
One thing that I’ve learned in the two and a half years as a consultant is I need to do things on my own terms. I love to get inspired by others whom I follow. But sometimes it just doesn’t feel right for me.
I currently send my clients a bi-weekly email filled with information on how to use a product, sales and promotions, or news about the company.
I also create blog posts like this one to educate on the brand. As for my social media, I like to highlight a Beautycounter product I’m using a few times a week.
Like I mentioned, I also have a team. I love when clean beauty lovers join Beautycounter and start something new. If you’re interested, I would love for you to join my team!
If you’re ready to take the plunge, here are the steps to do it. The links take you to sign up on my team, but if you already know a consultant you love and trust, reach out to him or her!

I hope this post gave you some good information on what’s it’s like and why this is a great opportunity for you. I will also add that Beautycounter has a limited time partnership with Sephora right now – I shared all the details in this post. Once that’s over, those clients will be looking for a way to get the high performance, clean products they love. And you can be the person who helps them out!
